Ongoing Support Groups

MFSS offer a range of ongoing support groups, including:

The aims the KASH are to:

  • Assist K—6 students with homework and other literacy and numeracy tasks
  • Improve confidence of children and families & strengthen relationships
  • Strengthen and support the connection between families, schools and communities
  • Engage parents in their children’s educational outcomes

 

KASH – Koori After School Homework Club

KASH Brochure2-1Monaro Family Support Service’s Koori After School Homework Program (KASH) was established in 2006 in response to a suggestion by local Koori families.   The program has been an on-going partnership between Monaro Family Support Service and the Cooma Public School and is funded by NSW Department of Family & Community Services.

The program, which provides additional tutorial support , is conducted each Tuesday after school in school term and provides students with homework, literacy, numeracy skills, cultural information, craft, singing, dancing and exercise.

A healthy afternoon tea is provided and at least once a year in school holidays an excursion is offered.

WHERE: Cooma Public School
WHEN: Every Tuesday during term after school for 2 hours
HOW: With qualified, trained staff  at Cooma Public School

SCALLYWAGS

kidsScallywags, is an activity group for children with additional needs, siblings and their carers, which meets regularly Bombala and undertakes an annual whole family excursion.  The program is supported in a range of ways by Cooma Challenge and Bombala Council Community Services.

MAD

mad-logoMAD is a supported playgroup conducted at the Hub Youth centre fortnightly for young Mums And Dads. The MAD playgroup is funded through Families NSW, auspiced by Monaro Family Support and conducted by Nikki Rabbitte who is employed by Grand Pacific Health.

MFSS supports a local group of parents and carers who come together  in person and via a private facebook group to support each other and access a range of support services including advocacy and representation.
