Sometimes having an independent person to listen to what is going on for us is really helpful. Family Support Workers assist individuals and family members to make choices about their lives, to clarify issues and problems and to recognise skills and strengths.
CASEWORK & CASE MANAGEMENT
Casework varies depending on the needs of a family, but generally aims to strengthen the families and individuals own capacities to deal with problems and to cope more effectively with what is happening in their life. The services delivered by a Case Worker range from simple issues of practical assistance, or resolving a resource issue, to longer term support around specific individual goals.
Sometimes people have several agencies supporting them and case management can be useful to ensure that services work together to ensure that the family’s needs are met.
ADVICE, ADVOCACY, INFORMATION, REFERRAL, GENERAL SUPPORT
All MFSS sites have information about other services for families, and about parenting and relationships and resources. The Cooma office offers a nappy changing facility in a convenient, central location above Leo Percy’s Newsagency on the corner of Sharp and Vale Street. The Vale Street entrance has a lift. We may be able to assist you to connect with, refer you to, or advocate on your behalf with other government or non-government agencies such as Centrelink, Accommodation Services, Department of Community Services and others.
PARENTING SKILLS & SUPPORT
Many of the group programs we offer can also be conducted one on one with parents if attending a group program.
